My experience: HarwichSOUP

Fresh peppers and onions next to a saucepan and soup bowl

Wednesday 12 April 2017

Hi, my name’s Charlotte and I’m involved in HarwichSOUP, a micro-funding event where local groups and individuals pitch their idea to their community.

Each person listening to the pitches has made a donation on the door, normally £5. For this they get to vote for their favourite pitch and enjoy a hearty bowl of homemade soup (that’s where the SOUP comes in). It’s a social evening with a community flavour.

We used the 2016 Art of the Possible festival to raise awareness of SOUPs across Essex and make connections with other people who wanted to run events in their local area.

SOUPs have raised thousands of pounds for grassroots projects seeking to make a real difference in their community. It helps ordinary people and local community groups improve where they live, work and study, and demonstrates what the art of the possible can be.
